Children at the centre of all we do
At Monkey Puzzle Mitcham we aim to ensure that your child positively benefits from our quality provision. We aim to provide a warm and nurturing environment in which each child can flourish and reach their full potential. We endeavour to support every child in our care in order to ensure they achieve their utmost, develop confidence in their own abilities and a lifetime love of learning.
We recognise and understand that during the Early Years children grow, develop and learn more rapidly than at any other time of their lives. Hence we do not take lightly our role in the care of your child. We want you to feel both happy and secure when you leave your child in our care.
We recognise the importance of good manners and respect for others and believe this enables our children to be well prepared for life outside the Nursery environment. We are dedicated to providing the children in our care with a strong foundation for life, and believe that a quality Early Years education provides children with the best opportunity to achieve their full potential both while at the Nursery and in the future.
We believe that parents/guardians are a child’s principal carers and first educators, therefore we value and respect their role. We also understand the importance of regular communication and keeping you informed of every stage in your child’s development. We know that family participation in a child’s education is essential and can help a child’s positive development.
We also believe that strong, experienced and educated staff have a positive impact in a child’s learning and development.
Our promise to you:
⦁ To have the highest standards of care and nursery education tailored to your child’s individual interests and needs.
⦁ To develop a close and supportive relationship with you to ensure that we work together to meet the needs of your child.
⦁ To ensure we provide real experiences to enhance your child’s understanding and knowledge of the world around them.

⦁ To take every measure required to ensure that your child feels safe and secure.
⦁ To instill in your child a lifetime love of learning.
⦁ To support your child in developing confidence in their own abilities.
⦁ To enhance and educate every member of staff on all matters regarding children’s care and development in the Early Years.
Monkey Puzzle Mitcham Mini- Bus
We have promised to provide real experiences to enhance children’s understanding and knowledge of the world around them. In order to fulfil this promise to you at our upmost we aim to purchase a nursery mini-bus. We aim to use the mini bus to safely and securely transport our children to various outings and trips in the local community. These include:
⦁ Visits to various parks
⦁ Adventure/nature walks
⦁ The garden centre
⦁ Forest School
Trips significantly improve and enhance children’s learning experiences and are also vital for children to connect with nature. We want to provide them with as many unique and meaningful experiences for them as possible.
The vehicle will be fully equipped with ISO child safety seats. A risk assessment will be conducted for all our planned activities and outings.
We have equipment sourced from Community Playthings.
Community Playthings ‘design and manufacture furniture and play equipment in the UK for primary schools and early years settings. Together with visionary educators, we have been creating beautiful learning environments for over 50 years.’
‘The way that children play influences our designs. Each item is designed to support open-ended play, making sure a child’s imagination is never limited by what they play with. The environment children play in has a great effect on them. Calm, protected areas allow children to concentrate on their play. Children who have ample opportunities for play go on to become eager learners. Our furniture is modular and adaptable, enabling the environment to be changed and developed.’
Ready for School Programme
My role as an Early Years Teacher and Leader has provided me with experience in supporting both children and parents with transitions to school.
At Monkey Puzzle Mitcham we will devise a ‘Ready for School’ Programme which aims to equip every child with essential practical skills for starting school. In addition, we aim to teach some academic skills along the way too, to give the children a head start in their education.
We will employ a Qualified Teacher for Pre-School to incorporate our ‘Ready for School’ Programme with designated teacher time sessions.
As part of this Programme we intend to develop a ‘Reading and Writing Scheme’ for children showing pre-reading readiness and basic pencil control. The scheme will not only support the children in taking the first steps in learning to read and write, but also in learning to love literature.
We will ensure children and parents are well supported in ‘preparation for school’ via information and videos on our website, workshops and links with local schools e.g. inviting reception teachers from the local primary schools to carry out story times at the nursery.
Monkey Puzzle Sweater
In support of our ‘Ready for School’ Programme we aim to encourage our preschool children to wear a ‘Monkey Puzzle Sweater’.
This is optional, parents are not obliged to purchase a ‘Monkey Puzzle Sweater’
The aim of the sweaters is to reinforce feeling part of a group for the children and an awareness that they are ‘getting ready for school’.
The use of educational technology is now known to have a major positive impact on the social, emotional, language, and cognitive development of children. It is recommended that many opportunities be given for exploration using technology tools in a playful, supportive environment.
