Physical Maths Challenge
We have been monitoring children’s progress and setting the team monthly challenges to support learning in different areas.
This month we set a physical maths challenge for all rooms.
Our learning objective for this task was to use resources and creativity to enhance the children’s individual physical and maths development
The Pre school room set up a variety of activities in the garden such as a shape and number balance beams, a number grid, and number bowling. The children joined in all the activities and the adults role modelled maths language such as size, numbers and shape. These activities also supported the children’s fine motor and gross motor skills.
The Baby room set up a physical busy board with a wide range of sized resources such as numerals, Duplo, mega blocks, lollipop sticks etc. to complete the task the children problem solved how to remove the resources by removing the masking tape from the board. This activity also introduced the children to different sizes, numerals in the environment and developed their fine motor skills.
The Toddler room set up a maths inspired finger gym table top activity. The children were able to explore the table with the support from the adults role modelling maths language such as weight, shape, measure and counting. The table had a variety of learning opportunities to extend the children’s fine motor skills including threading, weighing scales, compare bears, tweezers and pom poms. The children remained absorbed and engaged in the activity for a long period of time.

The children and staff turned up in their pyjamas in aid of Children In Need for which we raised a huge £54! Thank you for all your support

Welcome back to Selene our Nursery chef who is back at work after taking time off to recover from surgery on her ankle. Children and staff are delighted to have Selene back, we all missed her pancakes and yummy lasagne!
Farewell to Kirsty who is leaving her role as the Preschool Room leader/Third-in-charge. We would like to thank Kirsty for all her hard work and support during her time with us.
We would like to congratulate Ashleigh on her new role as Preschool Room Leader
Congratulations to Jess (Toddler Room Practitioner) on the birth of her baby girl Molly.
Nursery Cleaning: We have employed the services of a new cleaning company, we hope the new team will help keep our nursery clean to the high standard we expect for our setting.
Toys: At Monkey Puzzle Day Nursery we welcome children bringing in their toys during their settle sessions into the nursery as this helps them with the transition into everyday nursery life however we ask that you refrain from bringing toys from home once your child has settled into nursery. All the rooms have a wide variety of toys and resources for children to explore and share with their peers. We find that toys brought in from home cause a lot of disruption to the children’s day as well as distress incase of a toy going missing. Unfortunately the staff team are also having to spend their valuable time searching for missing toys at the end of the day. The nursery will not take any responsibility for any toys that go missing at nursery. Please note that in order for us to meet the legal requirement of staff to children ratio the staff team have been advised by the management not to leave any children in their care in order to go searching for any missing toys. We ask for your corporation in this matter as we have to put the children’s safety first.
We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
